Biography
Michiaki Yamasaki was born and raised in Japan. He attended Tohoku University where he received a B.Eng. degree in metallurgy in 1996 and a Ph.D. degree in materials science in 2000. He has been engaged in metallurgical and materials science as university scientist and professor: Hokkaido University (2000-2001), National Institute for Materials Science (2001-2002), Kumamoto University (2002-present) and The University of Queensland (2015-2016). Now he is a professor of Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and a director of Light Metals Research Hub and Magnesium Research Center, Kumamoto University. His current research interests include the development of new Mg alloys with high strength, good ductility and high corrosion-resistance, based on new multimodal microstructure design concept.
