Welcome to our laboratory! Established in April 2022, our lab is one of
four pioneering facilities within the Department of Materials Design. At
the heart of our endeavors lies a passion for education and cutting-edge
research, with a primary focus on the development of titanium alloys through
advanced metallurgical techniques. Our expertise spans the spectrum of material
synthesis and characterization, with a particular emphasis on X-ray and
electron microscopy analysis of inorganic compounds, extending from traditional
ceramics to modern semiconductors. From bulk materials to intricate thin
films, we apply this wealth of experience to the exploration and refinement
of titanium alloys and other lightweight metals.Central to our approach
is the concept of “Structure-Driven” alloy design, guided by meticulous
evaluation of alloy microstructures across multiple scales, from the atomic
level to macroscopic dimensions. Under the guidance of esteemed professionals
such as Dr. Yoshito Kawamura, Director of the International Magnesium Research
Center, and Dr. Alexey Vinogradov, a distinguished professor, alongside
Dr. Zenji Horita and esteemed colleagues from Kumamoto University’s Materials
Science and Engineering Education Program, our laboratory is dedicated
to fostering an environment conducive to comprehensive materials research—from
manufacturing through rigorous evaluation and analysis to the realization
of functional properties. We are committed to nurturing both the minds of
our students and the advancement of scientific knowledge, providing a collaborative
platform where curiosity meets innovation. As we embark on this journey
of exploration and discovery, we eagerly anticipate your continued guidance
and support. Join us as we push the boundaries of materials science, from
inception to application.
